52 Cards Played & Lived To Tell

Shuffling through and seeing all the offers in the Drink Deck can be daunting. Think of all the eating and drinking options at your disposal! Now while there are 52 weeks in the year, and ironically 52 cards in the Drink Deck, it still seems like quite an undertaking to hit them all. Lucky for you Drink Deckers – our product doesn’t expire!

Meet Ben Nicksic, pictured below, from Chicagoland. A man on a mission to hit all 52 spots in his Drink Deck Chicago! We first met Ben in the summer of 2011 while attending a Chicago Street Festival. He vowed to be the first to hit all 52, as many have boldly stated in the past. Now he’s returned – proclaiming his accomplishment, “I finished my Drink Deck Chicago!”.

2013 Portfolio Event 412

We recently sat down with Ben for a conversation about his experience using Drink Deck. Here’s what he had to say.

Q: Where and when do you purchase your Drink Deck?

A: I purchased my Drink Deck at Belmont Street Fest in the summer of 2011. After seeing how great it was, I bought 2 more decks for family members, one of which lives in Portland. They love them!

Q: Why did you purchase Drink Deck Chicago?

A: I love going out and trying new bars and restaurants, and the savings in cash is tremendous. You make up the cost in 2-3 cards. But mainly, it was because I wanted to try new places.

Q: What was the first and last place you visited and why?

A: The first one I tried was Sheffield’s. I love the place and at the time, I lived really close to it. The last place I went to was Reggie’s Music Joint. Its the one place that is kind of further to get to, but its a great place. Actually, it was one of my favorites!

Q: What was your favorite venue?

A: I cannot answer this question without including 5. And even that’s tough to narrow down. These are in no particular order…..

  • Honky Tonk BBQ—this represents all that I love about Drink Deck. I never would have ever thought to go to Pilsen to a restaurant, but this one blew me away. Great food, great drinks (Moonshine) and it actually has the feel of an authentic southern bar/restaurant. Oh and they have really good music too!
  • Taco Joint–Great food, awesome summer atmosphere and amazing Sangria.
  • Jak’s Tap—(not to be confused with the bar in Lakeview called Jack’s) Awesome bar on the west side with many many options for microbrews. Wings are really good, service is fantastic.
  • Honorable mentions: The Grafton, The Pony, Webster’s Wine Bar

Q: What do you like about Drink Deck? Any dislikes?

A: The exposure to new parts of the city, the savings, the “game” of getting through a deck, the customer service at the street festivals….there’s a lot to like. The fact that you guys (Drink Deck) remembered who I was from a year prior. This is the perfect thing for someone new to the city or someone who wants to expand their horizons.

Q:Any dislikes?

There was only 1 bar I really did not like. Since I praised the good ones, I need to also point out the bad ones. Rockit downtown—My friend and I went there to eat a burger and have drinks one day last summer. The bartender would not accept the drink deck coupon. She said that it was only for food. Fine print and all. I pointed out as my argument that it was a “Drink” Deck coupon. The manager got involved. It wasnt really the money part as it was the principal of it. And I guess it kind of was the money too, because Rockit is massively overpriced. Finally, the manager agreed to give us a couple of free rounds of drinks, but that was only after we were embarrassed at having to argue over a few dollars. It is the one bar on the deck that I would not go back to.

Every other bar was accommodating and some even gave me bigger savings. Frietkoten gave me a full order of fries on the house. Amazing place!

Made in Chelsea on a budget!

Fancy yourself as a bit of a Sloane Ranger well now’s your time to strike and scoop an epic discount!

A stone’s throw from Sloane Square station (no literally even I couldn’t miss) is  The A-mazing Botanist. A fabulous combination of cocktails and all-day dining. So whether you are looking for brunch before shopping, a long lunch or a night out on the town this place has it all.

For the purposes of this post (it’s a tough job) I decided to bring together a group of my favourite Drink Decker ladies and host a ‘Made in Chelsea’ soirée. We opted to reserve a table in the restaurant section and glad we did as it was absolutely packed in the bar area (can only be a good sign in my mind). A good tip, I always say, is to let the venue know you will be using a Drink Deck card when you book- more of a courtesy to staff thing!
You can still order from the cocktail list in the dining room so we all opted for a little tipple before dins. The cocktail list isn’t as daunting as some but seems to offer a bit of something for everyone. Plus, if your favourite isn’t on there they offer to make it for you (or at least attempt)! Front runners for us were:

Jamaica 1689

Myers jamaican dark rum, Crème de cacao, hazelnut, almond, hot chocolate, cream

The Botanist Champagne cocktail

Aperol, elderflower, peach bitters, Chapel Down rosé brut

Now for food… This took some time to choose! The most hilarious thing was whilst everyone’s food was to-die-for, we all got food jealousy at the chicken Caesar Salad!! Not just any Caesar Salad you get a full but small chicken with a hearty side of salad with a poached egg thrown in for fun! And at just £16.50 you honestly couldn’t go wrong!

With only room left for wine and the evening flowing by we decided to head to our next port of call, but not before settling up and paying the bill. This is strangely the best part. Just by playing a Drink Deck card we got a stonking £55.52 off of the bill! That’s almost the price of 3 decks!

How could it get any better you ask? Well throw in a little JuJu magic! 5mins up the road in a taxi this is the perfect way to end the night! We rocked up about 10pm so still nice and chilled but that was soon to change. Chelsea folk turned up in the grandeur and helped us to party the night away. Another 20% off with Drink Deck afforded us an additional £15 off a spend of £75.

GRAND SAVINGS TOTAL = £70.50

Dinner, Drinks and a walk along the canal. Lovely Camden!

Looking for the perfect combination of cocktails and hearty food… look no further than Camden. We started our night at the fabulous Fifty Bar just a stone’s throw away from Camden Town tube station. With Drink Deck you can get a cheeky £7.50 off but not before treating yourself to some tasty BOGOF cocktails. We only had time for one so decided to tickle our fancy with the Barnamint Baileys: Oreo Cookies, Baileys and Green Creme de Menthe blended with vanilla ice cream (£8)

Then it was a short walk along the canal to The Engineer. A welcoming local pub in Primrose Hill with an excellent selection of food and better array of handpicked beers, lagers and wines. As for food I opted for the pork belly and it was cooked to perfection! Plus, rich enough that I didn’t need a starter! Thinking I may be able to fit more in I decided to try for dessert the potted caramel. The main part of the dessert itself was divine however I have to say the lavender shortbread wasn’t for me! An acquired taste perhaps?

A thoroughly enjoyable evening and perfect for a night with friends, family or even a date… Valentines Day is fast approaching guys!

And with a saving of £14.50 how could you resist!

A Superbowl XLVII Drinking Game

Okay, kids, this is it. All the foreplay and build up is done. It’s time for the Big Game for the Big Game. As usual, we’ll be using Vinny’s (patent pending) 3 Drinking Game Measurements: Sip, Swig, and Slam (finish your beer/take a shot). And remember, this is for entertainment purposes only. Don’t end up like Justin Blackmon.

Take a Sip

1 Sip: Take 1 sip for every one of Ray Lewis’ tears. You’re a grown-ass man. Stop crying.
2 Sips: For every mention of Colin Kaepernick’s tattoos.
2 Sips: Any time Joe Flacco’s unibrow makes an appearance.
3 Sips: Any use of the phrase “Bro Bowl” or “HarBowl” or some other of the myriad of ways the NFL will remind us of how neat it is that brothers are coaching against each other in the Super Bowl.
4 Sips: For every Jim Harbaugh face or freak out. Add a bonus swig if he does that little child stomp.
4 Sips: If When Ed Reed gets an interception. There. I said something nice about the Ravens.

Take a Swig

1 Swig: For ever beer commercial.
1 Swig: For every commercial with a baby or scantily clad woman. Drink all the way through the Go-Daddy ads.
2 Swigs: For every celebrity sighting. Commercials count, but “celebrity” is left to your discretion.
3 Swigs: For every shot of Mr. and Mrs. Harbaugh. Because their sons are coaching! Against each other! In the Super Bowl!
4 Swigs: If there is a camera shot where Terrell Suggs actually has his mouth closed.

Slam It

Slam Your Drink: If Beyonce has a “wardrobe malfunction,” then thank your lucky stars you weren’t watching the Puppy Bowl.
Slam Your Drink: If the announcers mention any player in a negative light for off-the-field behavior. Don’t worry, they won’t. No one wants to keep their head on a swivel for a flying soap dispenser.
Slam Your Drink: If one of the announcers, players or coaches audibly swears and they have to awkwardly cut away.

Drink for the Duration of:

  • Any video package of New Orleans. Bourbon St! Jazz! Mardi Gras!
  • Any Ray Lewis dance.
  • Any split-screen shot of the Harbaugh Brothers. Because they’re related, you see.

Stop Drinking If:

You laugh at a GEICO Caveman commercial.

New bar to hit Shoreditch – Barrio East

We got the chance to check out the new Barrio bar this week Barrio East and it is looking fab! The venue is so spacious and a lot of thought has gone into the decor to bring this true neighbourhood bar to life!

Location & Venue

This is perfectly located on Shoreditch High Street, right next door to another of our fab venues The Shoreditch. An easy walk from Old Street, Shoreditch High Street and/or Liverpool street stations! I feel a Shoreditch High Street bar crawl coming on!

As for the venue, well frankly this sold it to me! We simply couldn’t believe the amount of space available! Its a burrow of different areas including a dance floor, and 2 side rooms with bundles of seating. Our favourite part was the caravan section on the dancefloor! And…don;t even get me started on the toilets!

Drinks

Barrio has brought Soho to Shoreditch and this includes its drink prices. However, having sampled what’s on offer we would be happy to pay it! Plus, if the happy hours are set to be anything like the other Barrios then it will be hard to keep us away! Our favourite cocktail of the night by far was the Hawaii n Dry (combination of Grapefruit Vodka and guava juice amongst other things) but we also got to try The Hoorat – great if you have a penchant for all things spicy – its made up of Bison Grass Vodka, red pepper and chilli with vanilla and apple. The Jitter Bug is a good choice if you like something a bit creamier (a tropical medley of Midori and Appleton VX Rum). One I may steer clear of in the future  (simply on account of its potency) is Tommy’s Margarita. Definitely get a lot for your money with this mix of Pure Agave and Ocho Tequila!

Atmosphere

The staff and general vibe were fab. This was a launch night of course but Ferdie had pulled out all of the stops with live music and the staff were always on hand to help you get hold of a new cocktail and explain what they all were. Our waitress was extremely friendly and as a consumer it would definitely encourage me to visit again!

Drink Deck NOLA Haunts for Halloween

New Orleans is a spooky town, even when it’s not Hallows eve! Any town with this much history, especially history involving pirates and the like are bound to have some ghosts! Now not all the stories of ghost hauntings in NOLA are old in fact! Here are a couple stories from Drink Deck friendly spots that we’d like to share. So if you find yourself looking for something to do this Halloween why not put on your Halloween get up and take your Drink Deck out for a spooky bar crawl in the French Quarter!

Here are two haunted spots to visit:

The Jimani Lounge: The year was 1973 and the gay lifestyle was not yet as accepted as it is today. One man, a bar owner, named James Massaci, Sr. had demonstrated a rare tolerance and acceptance, allowing local gays to use the second story of his building as a bar and nightclub they called the Upstairs Lounge. It was through the door on the second story above The Jamani on the night of June 24th, 1973 that an angry bar patron tossed a Molotov cocktail, causing an explosion and subsequent fire that consumed the Upstairs Lounge, claiming 32 lives.

George “Bud” Matyi was a local entertainer who played at bars and restaurants around New Orleans at the time. Although he was “out” to his close friends most people never knew that Bud was gay, but he took this in stride. Playing piano at the Upstairs Lounge above The Jimani, Bud could be among friends in a comforting and open atmosphere. The night of the fire Bud actually made it out of the building, but went back in to help others escape! In the end he parished, and they found him dead under the piano. To this day George “Bud” Matyi can be seen walking around the building vanishing in and out of the space. Here’s the full story if you’d like more information.

A plaque outside The Jamani pays tribute.

Lafitte’s Blacksmith’s Shop: Regardless of when you are in New Orleans or for how long you’ve lived there, the old building at 941 Bourbon St is a must for any bar enthusiast! It just so happens that there’s life in that old brick and mortar, some of it supernatural! In fact, Lafitte’s oozes with genuine haunted New Orleans atmosphere like flickering candles, dark woodwork, old fireplaces and a musty brick courtyard. The one ghost in particular that everyone hopes to see is that of the pirate Jean Lafitte who once used the location as a front for a burgeoning smuggling business. The building was built sometime before 1772, and is one of the few remaining original “French architecture” structures in the French Quarter.

There have been reports of hauntings in this old bar for years.

  • A mirror in the upstairs area is said to be haunted by the spectre of a woman some say it is Marie Laveau Or Madame Delphine Lalaurie.
  • The fireplace grate in the downstairs bar, rumored to be the actual last resting place of some of Lafitte’s gold, is said to be haunted by the ghost of the pirate Lafitte killed with the charge to protect the treasure for eternity.
  • Staff and patrons have been alarmed by the sight of two ghostly red eyes staring at them through the grate and the atmosphere around the fireplace is said to be decidedly chilled and unwholesome.
  • Several witnesses have actually reported seeing the man himself, The Notorius Ghost of Pirate Jean Lafitte, scowling from a dark corner, twisting his black moustache in his gloved hand. Several people who have seen the ghost say that as soon as it is aware of them, it will vanish into thin air.  Some say they smell the presence of a ghostly strange tabacco blend when he is near.

Anyone for a beer or two!

To start off, Mondays are excellent days for a bit of dinner and a pint at the Draft House. Why? Because they have an excellent burger Monday deal. You get any burger, chips, and a pint of house lager or Aspall cider for just under £9.75. How cool is that?

The waitstaff are very friendly with one girl running the tables while looking as if she’s just stepped out of a J Crew catalogue. I’m not quite sure how that matches with the general theme, but she makes it work. Now the big question, will they let me play a Drink Deck card (£5 off!) in conjunction with the burger Monday offer?

Yep, they will! Although you will need to order at least one more item as two burger Monday deals will leave you just shy of the £20 minimum spend by 50p. However, with the incredible range of beers and ales available on tap, in a cask, and bottled, the only problem you will have is making a choice (ask you server to recommend based on your tastes, they are usually quite knowledgeable). It’s always nice when you can find a use for a DD card even when you’re just looking for a quieter night. Goes to show that Drink Deck is suitable for all styles!

Food-wise, the burgers are interesting but with massive patties (we’re talking almost 2 inches/7cm thick here) which leaves them a bit dry for the most part. I’d highly recommend ordering it medium rare rather than the standard medium to preserve some of the juices. The Yolk (burger with a fried egg on top) seems to be the most popular although I found the glazed hollandaise sauce to be far to rich for even my decadent tastes. The “Smoke” could do with a bit more smokiness (add bbq sauce please!). The chips and fries are both excellent with crisp skins and fluffy soft cores and the bun is toasted which adds a nice bit of crunch.

Beers are of course excellent. The Draft House lager is slightly sweet and very refreshing. I also tried a Coopers Stout which was rich, slightly bitter, and had strong notes of dark chocolate. Excellent stout all around and it made me wish I had space for that chocolate brownie and ice cream I saw on the menu.

Overall, a great place for a drink (be careful though, some of those beers range up to 10.0% abv), and a decent place for a bite. It’s hard to beat the value especially when you play your Drink Deck Card!

What a great week and still more to come!

What a great week this has been. With both London Cocktail Week and National Chocolate Week we can be sure our diets have been put out…detox next week!

Top 3 highlights…

1)The Tradicional After Supper Club – fantastic treat when I managed to nab a couple of tickets to this event. It was only the bar side of things not the full supper club but amazing all the same. They gave us the cutest little wristbands made up of 5 bits of thread and a skull and the bar staff cut a thread for each free drink - genius idea!

After having been out drinking beforehand I only managed a couple of Margaritas but wow were they good…saved enough room for the yummy complimentary taquitos though. Made me extremely jealous that I wasn’t next door sampling the full supper club!

 2) Discovering the true art of ‘proper’ cocktail making at Circus. Getting to see Swanand Korgaonkar work his magic was pure joy. Ever the perfectionist see below the beautiful Moshi Moshi (hope spelt that correctly!) cocktail made with Beefeater 24 Gin

3) The wonderful and different flavours of cocktails on offer at the  Monkey Shoulder pop up. Its lovely to witness such a wonderful range of flavours in a cocktail. I went for:

Drop It Like It’s Fall

Monkey Shoulder, Kummel, cumin & greengage reduction, fresh lemon juice, sugar syrup, egg white & topped with Fevertree ginger ale
Horchata: Drink of the Gods
Monkey Shoulder, Autumn Horchata & grated nutmeg. Heated to order.

The perfect date location…Bar Pepito!

If you are looking for somewhere a bit different for that all important first date then we couldn’t recommend Bar Pepito any more highly!

Set away in The Regent’s Quarter, you would never know you are just a stones throw away from one of London’s busiest stations (King’s Cross St Pancras International). Sitting in this small bodega bar (get there early to nab a table) it is easy to be carried away into thinking you are in the heart of Spain. It even has the cobbled streets to boot!

The real magic of this place however is the sherry! Don’t be scared if you have never tried sherry before, this is the perfect place for the sherry novice! The staff are willing to educate and guide you through your sherry journey! We went through 3 of the sherry flights, which were extremely reasonable (£15 being the most expensive) and enabled us to choose which we liked the best (mine being the Palo Cortado ‘Apóstoles’, González Byass). And what a great conversation starter.

But there is no need to stop there, the food is equally as amazing. We went for one of the specials – stuffed peppers with chorizo and selected one of the cheeses.

Don’t be alarmed – no gnomes were killed in the making of this dish!

If you would prefer something bigger then you can always pop across the way to Camino, their sister restaurant!

The following video gives you a great guide to the bar and has some great tips on what to eat and drink when you visit – presented by Richard Bigg (Co-owner of the venue)

Don’t forget to play your Drink Deck card when you visit to get £7 off!

Amped Up For Android!

To celebrate the one year anniversary of Drink Deck on Android we’ve released a sexy new version of our app that gives our Android users some awesome new functionality! Below are some screen shots and explanations.

The splash screen image is followed by a one time pop up message that tells you that you can scroll through the cards to see each of the 52 venues and their special offers. It defaults to London, but read below to learn how to change your destination.

The first card that shows up is the terms and conditions card. The image can be tapped on to increase its size or you can just scroll away from here. With your snazzy Android phone you can also turn the phone sideways to get a landscaped view of all the screens!

To change your destination just tap “More” from the menu at the top of the main menu. From here a pop up box will appear the bottom of the screen allowing you to select the city you wish to access.

If you see a card that you want while scrolling through the venues just tap the bottom left corner of the card and you will be taken to the purchase page where you have the option of purchasing an entire destination for $29.99 US / £19.99 UK or up to 10 cards from any of our destinations for just $13.99 US / £8.99 UK.

Any cards you’ve purchased will show up on the “My Cards” page and you can access them for redemption.

With the purchase any 10 cards feature you have the ability to purchase the same venue’s card a maximum of 3 times. You can see each of the venue signs in a list and can tap the venue you’d like to purchase and then continue scrolling down the list until you’ve selected 10. From this list you have the ability to select 10 from any of the 4 current Drink Deck destinations.

Drink Deck welcomes our first London Ambassador!

We’d like to welcome the lovely Andrew as our first Drink Deck London Ambassador! He is single handedly trying to get round as many of the bars as he can and in the process provide us with some snippets from his fabulous nights out. A new twist on a mystery shopper some might say… but with an amazing cocktail in hand!!

“52 cards, 52 bars, 52 weeks in the year…perfect!”

A great one to start off with…Barrio Central:

Q&D Summary:

Barrio Central (“BC”) is good for a chill night with friends but more for getting your drink on!

- Amigo Hour from 3-8pm (3-7pm on Fridays & Saturdays) with £4.50 cocktails
- High bartender to bar space ratio = quick drink service
- Table service for no extra charge
- Reserve a place in advance for no charge and get queue-jumping privileges
- Staff are very friendly and helpful

The Full Monty

I flicked through my Drink Deck in search of a place to hold birthday drinks. Barrio Central ticked the key boxes: ✓ happy hour, ✓ central location, ✓ reserve a space in advance, and ✓ reasonably priced for the area. Sorted!

Getting there

BC is located a short 5 min walk from Oxford Circus and a slightly longer one from Piccadilly Circus. Despite being warned in advance that there would be a line even on a Thursday night, there was no problem for me or any of my friends getting in. The hostess led us to our space and had no qualms about booting out some people who had disregarded the “reserved” signs and taken up residence. A good start for us (although perhaps less so for the squatters) and we were off!

Drinks brought to me = Awesome

A plus point was the availability of table service even though the bar was just beyond our area. I personally hate queuing for a drink as it takes away from time with my friends (which is damn precious) and then you are faced with that slight problem of how to carry everything back through the crowd. Luckily, the lovely waitresses at BC take care of all of that for you. If you start a tab, they’ll give you a little square card with your table number that you can use to order your drinks rather than shouting out a name and risking others using it (it’s happened before!). Minor problem is that the card is pretty damn small which means you gotta be careful or you’ll lose it.

The Grub, the Booze, and the Other Stuff

Food is served all night provided you’ve snared yourself a table. It’s fairly standard Spanish/Mexican fare with the chorizo and quesadillas being the most favoured in our group. But we weren’t here to eat.

Overall, the drinks are well conceived and tasty but the alcoholic content seemed to differ depending on which bartender you had. Those that really stood out for me were the Barrio Zombie, the Bahama Mama, and the Yummi Gummi.

The Barrio Zombie is the signature drink. Those familiar with Zombies, flaming or otherwise, know it’s a potent beverage consisting of variety of rums and little else. It is served in a luchador head mug (think Nacho Libre’s mask) and is big enough to give even the most die-hard American college frat boy a good buzz. At £20, it’s the most expensive drink on the menu by far, but just being able to walk around and sip out of a head makes it good value.

The Bahama Mama is BC’s take on a Piña Colada with dark rum, coconut rum, a bit of coffee liqueur, and finished off with
citrus. Served with a pineapple garnish, the sweetness of the rum and slight bite of the coffee liqueur make this a truly tasty
libation. I also got hints of caramelized pineapple which were absolutely brilliant and to top it off, this drink is served in a barrel! Yep, definitely my favourite of the night.

The Yummi Gummi is a sweet rum, pear, and lychee mix but the real draw are the handful of gummy bears used to garnish the drink. Why don’t more bars use gummy bears as garnish?

Well I’m done and going to start looking for the next card to play. As my favourite rabbit says, that’s all folks!

What’s more Andrew managed to get a whopping £34 off his bill and still 51 cards to use!!

A couple changes in Chicago

Hey there Drink Deckers! Hope your summer was fun filled with plenty of bar hoppin and savings with Drink Deck in Chicago. This is a quick message to update you on some recent changes in our current print in the Windy City.

Jack’s Bar & Grill, now Diag Bar & Grill

You might have noticed that last month Jacks Bar & Grill closed down. The current owners are still involved, but they felt the place needed new life, and a new name Diag Bar & Grill. If you have a Drink Deck card for Jacks Bar & Grill it’s still valid, and nothing has changed next door at 404 Wine Bar; where you save 25% when you play your Drink Deck card! Get over there soon to check out the new digs at Diag Bar & Grill and get $10 off your tab!

First In Fine Spirits then Premise, now LM Bistro?

Yep! And this time the space has been sold to new owners, so your Drink Deck card isn’t valid at the new venue. It’s a shame, because Premise was only in business for 4 months! Sorry about that, but you’ve got 51 other special offers that don’t expire in your Drink Deck Chicago! If you’d like you can send us your unused In Fine Spirits card in the mail and we’ll send you another card so you don’t feel slighted. More info here.

For our iPhone and Android users please be advised that we’re putting in updates soon and are planning to add some new spots in Chicago. Look out for a future blog post on this in the near future!

The entrants are judged on both the drinks and the representation the El Dorado brand gets in their bar.

Please help support Wax Jambu as much as possible as we’d love them to win. Follow them on Facebook or Twitter to leave them a message of encouragement!

The final will be taking place at Trailer Happiness on Thursday 23rd August.

Drink Deck London is finally here!

A massive thank you to everyone who helped make our media launch possible last night. The London Cocktail Club provided the perfect setting and the staff were on fire concocting fabulous cocktails thanks to Love Drinks and El Dorado Rum: LCC (London Cocktail Club) Swizzle and Drink Deck Punch. Plus, we had some fantastic beers sent over from Camden Town Brewery! All in all a great set up, photos to follow.

We are also extremely grateful to everyone for attending. It was great to be able to introduce the concept and talk about the great venues we have involved – especially over a blackjack game…or two! Will was our croupier for the evening and he definitely looked the part!

Of course we are biased and can’t wait to see how well the product does but it looks like you agree; we had some fantastic tweets and coverage so far, for example, Thrillist

The physical product is now available to buy online with our mobile application due to launch shortly! We’ll keep you posted!

Never mind the rain, celebrate the Summer in style with the opening of A Grelha!

Last night Drink Deck London were out helping the team at The Gun celebrate the launch of the amazing A Grelha (Portuguese for ‘grill’); The Gun’s entirely al fresco Portuguese BBQ restaurant and bar.

As well as having a passion for British pubs Tom and Ed Martin, owners of the Gun have a passion for Southern Portuguese food and wine and this is evident when sampling the delights on offer last night! Free Superbock, Pimm’s and ETM wine as well as tasters of the amazing Portuguese menu were all in full flow. If this is a sample of what’s to be served up at A Grelha this summer we would highly recommend booking your table now! Plus, we’re told that if you book before the end of June quoting ‘A Grelha Launch Party’ they’ll treat you and your guests to a pitcher of Pimm’s – we’re already picking up the phone!

Hardly room to get to the bar...what a night!!

Tha famous 'Grill'

So whether it’s a chilled day out, drinks with friends or romantic riverside date you are after, we couldn’t recommend this enough! P.S please try the Portuguese Salt Code Croquettes they are to die for!

What a view!

Don’t forget to play your Drink Deck card at The Gun for 20% food and drink (min. spend £20)!

Recent Shake Ups & Changes

Howdy Chicago! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again this summer during Street Festival Season in the Windy City. Wanted to take a quick minute and tell you about some recent changes with our Venue Partners:

Small Bar has sold it’s ownership of their Fullerton location and it’s morphed into Beer Bistro North, an expansion of The Beer Bistro’s flagship location in the West Loop. The Owners of Small Bar Fullerton will be focusing soley on their operation on Division Street and you can bring your Drink Deck card from Small Bar Fullerton into the Division Street location.

Redeem This Card at Small Bar Division Street

Andersonville’s In Fine Spirits has revamped their concept and is now know as Premise. The wine and spirits store by the same name (In Fine Spirits) will remain. We’ve connected with Management and Ownership at Premise and they’ve agreed to continue honoring the In Fine Spirits card for 25% off.

Your In Fine Spirits card is still valid at Premise

For those with a “vintage” copy of Drink Deck Chicago’s first or second print run please be advised that Riverview Tavern (which we no longer represent) has changed hands and will no longer honor the Drink Deck card with their name on it. If you are looking for a Drink Deck venue in Roscoe Village go to Volo Wine Bar or Village Tap, both are Drink Deck friendly.

How’s Tricks London?

With our expansion across the pond we wanted to share a little more about our concept for future “Drink Deckers” in the UK. Our mission at Drink Deck is to provide locals and visitors with a fun way to explore a city’s neighborhoods by presenting a curated list of 52 special offers at excellent food, drink & entertainment venues. From the well established to what’s fresh on the scene Drink Deck represents a wide variety of venues to suit any mood. Shuffle through our deck of playing cards to plan a day or night on the town, or download the app to your phone and use our location based map to plot your course!

Our playing card decks are produced in small batches so we can continually update our list of Venue Partners, keeping you up to date on what’s fresh and new in each city’s ever changing food & drink scene. We focus on destinations in the US and UK that are known for excellent food & drink, and help you by cutting down on the amount of research you need to do prior to planning a night out; or a visit to a new city.

Drink Deck is not for coupon clippers, but for those who enjoy a drink on the house or a little something off their bill at a venue that typically doesn’t play the deal of the day game. The special offers can add up though and using your Drink Deck just 1-3 times will pay you back on your investment. We recommend organizing £ offers by neighborhood and using those cards to create mini bar crawls. Spend £20, redeem your card and move on to the next venue! With % offers gather a group of friend, open a tab and the more you spend, the more you save! In one food and drink session spending just £100 you save £20, paying yourself back for your Drink Deck. Now you’re playing with house money…as they say!

Below is an example of a Drink Deck London card and some basic rules of engagement for using Drink Deck:

How does a venue redeem my card?

With a physical card they tear the bottom left hand corner and return the rest of the card to you so you have a complete deck of playing cards. If they don’t return the card, just explain how the game is played; it was probably just a misunderstanding.

Now with the smart phone apps we wouldn’t want anyone trying to tear the corner off your phone, so all the venue partner has to do is tap the bottom left hand corner and then tap “Yes” to redeem. After that the corner will turn red with the word “redeemed” over it. Remember, with your smart phone app you’ll get free updates everytime we reprint the physical playing cards, so when you see an update available on your phone, UPDATE for 52 new special offers in your Drink Deck destination!

London’s Smart Phone Apps

Personally, I prefer my playing card deck. It’s tactile, fun to share with friends and creates spontaneity when selecting my next food & drink venue. None the less, some Drink Deckers enjoy having their cards on their phone. People are much more protective of their mobile devices and less likely to leave it at home or spill a beverage on it! For these reasons, we’ll be developing Drink Deck London on iPhone and Android.

Yes, it’s a little pricey versus most other apps, BUT those apps typically just offer a service and don’t save you money like Drink Deck does! For £19.99 our app gets you 52 special offers that will save you 100′s of £s and give you good recommendations for going out; not to mention a location based map for plotting the course! Additionally, when you purchase all 52 cards you’ll get free updates for the life of your device each time we reprint the next small batch print of physical playing cards!

So it’s with great pleasure that we introduce Drink Deck London for your smart phone!

London Calling

We’ve been lusting for London’s nightlife of late. The Big Smoke ebbs and flows with great bars scenes: gastropubs, traditional pubs, lounges, basement bars, speak easies, cafes, beer-centric watering holes, art bars, craft cocktail spots and everything in between! Back in the summer of 2011 we met a young lady from London during a festival in Chicago. She seemed interested in bringing Drink Deck’s concept to London, we were keen to follow suit and pursue this opportunity to bring Drink Deck across the pond.

Now we’re laying the ground work and setting up shop to bring you thirsty bar enthusiasts an on-going collection of 52 great bar scenes in London! We’ve compiled at list of 52 fab spots from the beery to the punch drunk and we’ll be releasing a list of our venue partners and their special offers soon!

Bar Marketing Buddies

I meet Public Relations, Creative Directors from Ad Agencies, Publicists, Marketing Directors and self proclaimed social media gurus everyday. Same thing with Entrepreneurs, like myself. Some of these folks are doing marketing in one of the toughest and most pursued sectors, the bar business.

We at Drink Deck would be remiss to think that we’re the only ones doing bar marketing and promotion. There are some folks doing cool stuff right here in Chicago, after all it’s a great bar town! So I wanted to give our readers some other sites to check-out:

restaurant discount deck

Know somebody in your family that’s planning to attend DePaul Unversity in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood? We’ll you’d be super rad in their eyes if you turned them on to DePaul Drinks. Sam Hooke and his crack team of bar enthusiasts keep Lincoln Park up to date on specials at every bar in the hood; putting together a solid reference guide. Why did they do this? They got tired of Yelp. Us too guys! Excellent work on this marketing effort! Follow them on twitter or become a fan on facebook for more info!
Now DePaul, as the video says, “go get your drink-on!“.

Speaking of “gettin your drink on”, that’s exactly what this next local bar marketing & event promotions company is all about. My Drink On is an innovative approach to group buying for the top nightlife venues in the Windy City that incorporates socializing, networking and philanthropy into a single experience. They put together some great parties, including a recently released special for Halloween at Cedar Hotel! They’ve even already begun promotion of the 2012 New Year’s Eve Yacht Party. Rock on guys! You may single handely put poggled out of business. Follow My Drink On on twitter or become a fan on Facebook to learn more!

Free Beer Tomorrow

It’s such a classic bar sign! And the old adage remains true when you inquire at the bar, “Free beer tomorrow? … I’ll be back.” The sad part is that when you return the sign hasn’t changed! The devil’s in the details as they say.

Well, we’ve found a way to get you free beer, but not tomorrow; unless you’re reading this post on Tuesday, November 15th!

Scroll down for details on Drink Deck’s 2nd Anniversary Party!
Free Beer Tomorrow

Wednesday, November 16th Drink Deck is throwing a “free beer today” party at The Beer Bistro’s new Beer Cellar in Chicago’s West Loop!

Three ways to get free beer (oh, and whiskey):
1) Flash your Drink Deck (playing cards or smart phone) and check-in on Facebook/Foursquare or tweet to @drinkdeckchi & @thebeerbistro; and get free beer!

2) Don’t have a Drink Deck? Download our iPhone or Android app and as a bonus you’ll get a free copy of our Chicago playing cards, oh and free beer!

3) No smart phone? Buy the deck for our anniversary rate of 50% off (just $15 cash or credit) and you’ll get over $520 in discounts, no expiration and free beer!

It’s a win-win. A good beer costs between $6-$9. You’ll get free beer (The Beer Bistro’s Winter Brew from Brooklyn Brewery) coupled with the great savings and super bar recommendations of Drink Deck. RSVP here for the party. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Oh, did we mention free whiskey too? Koval, Chicago’s first boutique distillery, will be on hand as well for a free tasting! Oh, oh and don’t forget that you can use your Beer Bistro for 20% off your food and drink tab!

Cheers,

Joker’s Wild!

To celebrate the 2nd year anniversary of Drink Deck Chicago we’ve decided to introduce a new concept in our upcoming small batch print run and smart phone app refresh. It’s called Joker’s Wild.

No, not that hit TV game show from the 70′s by the same name, but a wild card of sorts that features a local spirits distillery to compliment our curated list of discounts to Chicago’s best bars. Here’s what the card looks like:

restaurant discount deck

With so many options now in Chicago we first had to try them all out….a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it! In the end we chose Chicago’s “first boutique distillery”, our friends at Koval!

“First” of course in the new age! Back in the days before (and during even) prohibition, local distillers were an ubiquitous business, but after the repeal of prohibition these craft distillers were thwarted by large producers. Thankfully, these small batch productions are coming back in a big way; bringing a really cool experience, complete with tastings, to us bar enthusiasts!

Now what’s so “wild” about this Wild Joker? Well, in addition to offering you over $520 in savings on food and drink at 52 great Chicago bar scenes; we’re now giving you a joker card good for a complimentary distillery tour for 2 and 15% off any in-distillery purchase at Koval! All you have to do is present your Drink Deck Chicago Wild Joker!

If you’re not familiar with Koval I’d start by reading this nice post from Cool Hunting on the operation. Then, I’d recommend either picking up the latest print run of Drink Deck or downloading Drink Deck to your iPhone or Android so you can take advantage of Koval’s offer for a complementary distillery tour for 2 (a $20 value)!

Drink up and enjoy my Bar Enthusiast’s!

Cheers,

The Drink Deck Guy!

P.S. – Koval will be joining us for our 2nd Year Anniversary event at The Beer Bistro from 6-9PM on Wednesday, November 16th. More details coming shortly to an RSS Feed, Social Media Feed or Email Address near you!

What Drink Deckers are saying

We love our customers…aka fellow Drink Deckers. You guys and gals totally keep it real. As you may know we recently conducted a survey asking for input from current and future Drink Deckers. Here are some responses from the vets and newbies:

Comments from Veteran Drink Deckers:

I think its a great idea, I love going to new bars that I might not have gone to before.” – Colette

All of my drink deck experiences have been great. The merchants redeem without trouble. I love thumbing through the deck and even though there are some places I will never go to, I have more than made up the cost of my deck.” – Bobbi Jo Delany

I use it weekly for “Random Wednesday”. I shuffle the cards, make a random selection and head over there. So far the cards have not steered me wrong.” – Paul McKay

My friends and I love Drink Deck! It’s been really great for us, mostly as a catalyst to get us to go someplace other than where we usually go” – Erin Cooper

I love the idea and will definitely use them soon! I love that they do not expire… great idea!” – Sara Ginsburg

I don’t carry them around all the time. I use foursquare as well, so I always see when I could have used them! If I were to purchase again, I would go with the mobile app.” – Emily Basten

“A lot of fun! I like using these cards and have purchased decks as gifts.” – not disclosed

I need to go to the bars that I’ve never been to before, and this is an excellent excuse!” – not disclosed

The drink deck has been a great motivation to try new bars and many have become favorites that I never would have known about otherwise.” – Holly Mashaw

I initially had some apprehension regarding drink deck. After I ordered it I went on Trip Advisor Louisianna forum. I did not get a response from anyone when I queried if anyone had used the drink deck successfully. The two locations I used were Tracy’s and Lafitte’s and both locations were aware of the discount. No hassles!” – Michael Isserman

One waitress thought she had to keep the card, but after talking to the manager it was sorted out. That was one of the “selling” points for DrinkDeck; that you can keep the cards as a souvenier and see where you’ve been!” – Dana Tedesco

The Android App is wonderful-I love the convenience of always having access to it, especially because even though I generally carry my coupons with me if I’m heading out at night with friends I don’t. Thanks!” – “Sandhya Krishnan”

I love the idea and I always tell people about it. I’m on a mission to use all of my cards! Good luck!” – Sarah Gutierrez

Drink Deck Newbies – When asked, “What’s Drink Deck?:

The coupon deck of cards you can use to go to all the cool bars in Chicago and Portland“- Kristiana Kaufmann

Shuffle Drink Repeat – Portland’s Best Drinking Guide” – Shane Rutledge

awesome. something i need!” – Joe in Portland

A fun way to learn about drinks!” – E. Moursler

It’s something I should have because I drink.” Kat Ford

A great place to sit and drink adult beverages.” Gregory H.

Sort of like spinning the wheel to determine where you’ll go next.” – Laura Claire

Android App Cometh!

There are SO MANY deals out there these days. It’s almost silly!

But wait, isn’t Drink Deck a deal?

Yeah, but it’s more like a gift card that doesn’t expire, versus a coupon AND our cards on Android are now individually downloadable; meaning if you frequent the same spot time and time again (oh you creature of habit!) then you can purchase the same card over and over for just $0.99. The whole enchilada of Drink Deck’s curated list of 52 great spots for food and drink in Chicago or Portland are available for just $29.99, over 40% in savings for a full download of a specific city!

Those early adopters that pre purchased the app will be receiving an email from us shortly with details on claiming your full version for the destination you ordered.

Now, back to my rant from the beginning of this post. Sites like Savored (formerly Village Vines) charge $10 per reservation to save 30% and others like BarTab charge you $1 to get a $1 drink from a bar, but what kind of real drink can you get for $1? Plus you have to pay using their in app purchase which stores your credit card info. Drink Deck’s app goes through the Android Market Place and thus Google Checkout, keeping your information safer.

So, after justifying our existence in the land of deal making, we feel pretty good about what we’ve created for you “bar enthusiasts” and “foodies” in our never ending quest to bring discounts (on your phone) to a curated list of the best bar scenes in America’s top towns for food, drink and entertainment.

Now, let’s raise our glasses and don’t forget to download those Drink Deck cards! ; )

Top 5 Chicago

Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. A town steeped in bar culture thanks to Prohibition, Al Capone and Bootlegging. For your bar crawling pleasure the Windy City’s vast expanse of urban living affords a host of different scenes, from classic dives to upscale environs.

When people use the phrase bar crawl it tends to conjure up images of a college Frat barf-fest! But at Drink Deck, a bar crawl is for people who enjoy a variety of bar scenes & genres, depending on their mood. It’s a chance to be an urban explorer while sipping fine wines, craft cocktails, micro brewed beers, locally distilled liquors or the occasional low brow beer & a shot.

That said, I’ve put together a list of Chicago’s top five “Drink Deckinbar crawls based on bar genre from the newest Drink Deck Chicago:

Wine Bars:
Drink Deck’s Wine Bar Crawl features the neighborhoods of Lincoln Park and Roscoe Village. Start at Lincoln Park newcomer Vintage 338 for small plates and reasonably prices old world wines. Use your $10 gift card after spending the required minimum spend ($30) and hop a cab to Chicago’s first & oldest wine bar, Webster’s. Grab a seat in Webster’s cozy confines and ask their knowledgeable staff for wine flights and a cheese plate. Head a little north to Roscoe Village to enjoy the fab backyard patio at Volo, finishing your evening with an entree and vino. You spend $90 at three spots and save $30!

Gastropubs:
Our Gastropub crawl takes us to West Town for three spots that focus as much on food as they do on drinks. Old Oak Tap is perfect for an app & some micro brews either on the patio or nestled in the lounge next to the fire. Branch 27 is a swank bar/restaurant concept ideal for a hand crafted cocktail paired with my favorite, chicken fried chicken livers. The final stop of the Gastropub crawl is newcomer, Frontier. Check out their awesome list of fresh raw oysters and let the food and drink flow! Frontier offers 20% off with your Drink Deck card, so the more you spend the more you save!

Hip Hangouts:
Head to the South Side for three swanky scenes, deemed “Hip Hangouts”. Simone’s set the trend by using reclaimed pin ball machines, elementary school desks and chemistry sets to construct my favorite bar scene in Chicago! It’s a must see! Moving a little North of Pilsen you’ll encounter two new comers to Little Italy’s burgeoning Taylor Street District. Three Aces offers a Rock-and-Roll Gastropub concept pairing live Swing & Rockabilly with savory food, and Vintage Lounge, goes Italian Stallion on you with Arancini (Fried Risotto), pizza and a vast selection of Martinis.

Beer Bars:
Beer snobs and beer geeks have plenty of options in Chicago, but a visit to these spots will satiate your desire for hops and barley. Start in the West Loop at Beer Bistro where daily specials offer great bottles & drafts, and your Drink Deck card can save you 20% off your tab after the minimum spend! Walk West on Madison and two blocks south on Peoria to Greektown and encounter a Beer Bar haven with 40 drafts, Jaks Tap . Hop the Blue Line to River North where you’ll find Public House; the new spot from the guys behind Bull & Bear. At Public House your Drink Deck card saves you 30%!

Dive Bars:
I’d be remiss if Drink Deck didn’t have some awesome Dives, aka “Historic Bars” to say it in a more politically correct way. These spots are celebrated bar scenes in their own right! Nothing fancy, just Old Style (the official and unofficial beer of the Chicago Cubs), a shot of Malort and a bar stool is all I need. Did you know that many of the historic bars in Chicago acted as banks for union laborers and factory workers? They could actually cash their checks at the bar. Instead of a transaction fee, you had to spend a $2-$5 minimum at the bar! Here’s a three dive bar bender celebrating why Chicago is referred to as “The City of Broad Shoulders”: Happy Village, Lotties and Nisei Lounge.

To pick up your copy of the Chicago Drink Deck playing cards, visit our web site or for iPhone users, download the app.

Drink Deck Expands to Four Top U.S. Destinations for Food, Drink & Entertainment

Savvy travelers do research to find the best spots to visit before departing: checking Trip Advisor, reading blogs, asking friends for recommendations and purchasing travel guides. It’s a lot of work and rarely results in saving money!

Enter, Drink Deck for Chicago, Portland and, the newest addition, New Orleans! With “bar enthusiasts” and “foodies” in mind Drink Deck has combined the traditional travel guide and entertainment book concepts into a handy deck of playing cards, or location based iPhone app, featuring a curated list of 52 great bar/restaurant concepts; each offering up to 30% off with no expiration.

Will Glass, Founder of Drink Deck LLC says “We started in Chicago, a historically significant bar town from the bootlegging prohibition days. Portland, Oregon was next because it’s known as ‘Beervana’, offering more micro-brew beer than any other US destination. Next we moved on to New Orleans, a town that boasts the invention of more http://liquor.com/ [cocktails __title__ cocktails] then any other US city. Now work has begun on a very popular tourist destination known for partying…Miami!”

It’s a great way to be an urban explorer, either as a local or as a visitor. There are cards in each destination’s Drink Deck for every mood. Sometimes cheap beer and eats at a dive bar are in order. Yet other times it’s more about pairing food with drink, or listening to live music. Create a food, drink & entertainment bar crawl by picking out cards by neighborhood, bar genre or just pick a card, any card, and hit the town spontaneously.

Drink Deck will be hosting the Drink Deck New Orleans Launch Party to celebrate the new addition on Monday, June 27th at d.b.a.. RSVP required.

Introducing Drink Deck New Orleans!

We are pleased to announce that our expansion to New Orleans is complete! Our vision of Drink Deck as a “travel guide for bar enthusiasts” is becoming a reality; as this product gives our brand representation in three outstanding towns perfect for food & drink travel!

New Orleans is known as the Crescent City, a name given based on the path the river takes. Others refer to it as the Big Easy; a reference that originated in the Prohibition era, when the city was considered one big speak-easy due to the inability of the federal government to control alcohol sales in open violation of the 18th Amendment.

Steeped in culture, rooted in hospitality and well represented as a world class food & drink destination!

A list of locations is presented on the New Orleans Bars Page on our web site! You can become a fan on our facebook fan page or follow us on Twitter @drinkdecknola.

Drink Deck New Orleans can be ordered as a physical deck of playing cards at Order here or for your iPhone in the iTunes Store!

Our official launch party is scheduled for Monday, June 27th at d.b.a. and you can RSVP at here . Why Monday? We want as many of our Bar Partner locations, bartender & mixologist friends and members of the Hospitality Community to be able to make it out to the event. Most of the rest of us aren’t working all weekend and have some flexibility to attend after work. We hope to see y’all out at d.b.a. on Monday, June 27th.

Bar Crawlin Chicago

When people use the phrase bar crawl it tends to conjures up images of a college Frat braf-fest!

At Drink Deck, when we refer to a bar crawl we’re talking about going out “Drink Deckin”, experiencing the best offerings of a specific neighborhood from “Neighborhood Joints” and “Beer Bars” to “Bar/Restaurant” concepts and “Wine Bars”. All told, 16 different genres across 20 Neighborhoods!

“Drink Deckers” are bar enthusiast’s! People that can hold their liquor while enjoying nice wines, craft cocktails, micro brewed beers & locally distilled liquors. Cocktail culture and enjoying different bar scenes while being an urban explorer is the Drink Decker’s favorite past time.

That said, we have paid special attention to offering Drink Deckin Bar Crawls in neighborhoods from the Northside to Southside in Chicago. Here are some of our favorites from our upcoming small batch print run and iPhone update:

Uptown:

Drink Deck’s Uptown crawl is set to feature two “Neighborhood Joint” staples: Uptown Lounge and Crew Bar & Grill! The perfect pre and post concert destinations in Uptown!

Pilsen:

Urban exploration isn’t complete without a visit to one of Chicago’s oldest and most historically rich neighborhood. Step inside Honky Tonk  BBQ’s new bar scene or the swank recycled/reused/refurbished digs of Simone’s Bar for a taste of some of Pilsen’s finest food & drink.

River North:

The Drink Deckin bar crawl options abound in this chic city dwellers enclave. From upscale “Neighborhood Joint” Bull & Bear to “Authentic Mexican” haunt Zocalo to the “Hip Hangout” Rockit Bar & Grill or “Beer Bar” newcomers Public House, Drink Deck Chicago has your crawl covered with each card mentioned here offering 30% off a minimum purchase of $30. Stay longer, spend more and your discount grows … so bring your friends!

All this and more coming your way in May, 2011. Stay tuned and follow the party on twitter or facebook. Pick up your Drink Deck today at www.thedrinkdeck.com!

Drink for a Cause: Support New Orleans

New Orleans is one of the most unique destinations in the world thanks to the Crescent City’s rich food and drink culture. Educating Bartenders & Mixologists is an integral part of keeping this culture alive!

Drink Deck is happy to support the continuation of educating Bartenders and Mixologists by donating 10% of our proceeds to the New Orleans Culinary and Cultural Preservation Society (NOCCPS), which hosts Tales of the Cocktail®, the internationally acclaimed festival of cocktails, cuisine & culture. Taking place for it’s 9th year in New Orleans from July 20-24, 2011, the event mixes the best and brightest of the cocktail community: award-winning mixologists, authors, bartenders and chefs.

NOCCPS is committed to preserving the city’s worldwide culinary acclaim. Our non-profit partner raises funds to benefit hospitality industry members, while spreading the unique culture of dining and drinking in New Orleans to locals and visitors alike. NOCCPS further supports the hospitality industry through education, and scholarship programs like the Flo Woodward Fund and the Cocktail Apprentice Scholarship, Trails of the Cocktail for emerging talent in the cocktail industry.

So, next time your travel plans take you to the Crescent City pick up the bar enthusiast’s travel guide to New Orleans, and drink for a cause.

Rootstock

Hey there fellow and future Drink Deckers! We are huge fans of Rootstock, but unfortunately they are no longer honoring their Drink Deck card. We wish Rootstock all the best and thank them for participating in the past. Visit our most current list here.

Our product is a curated list, printed in “small batch” (just the way we like our bourbons), so the cards will change from one printing to the next as the bar scenes in a certain city evolve. Some bars will be removed by us. Others will request to be removed after a certain length of time. Since Drink Deck doesn’t have an expiration date it’s best to show the card when ordering to make sure it’s still honored or just check our most current list (Drink Deck Spots) when plotting your course.

Future print runs and iPhone app updates will include a bevy of new spots, so keep up to date on twitter and facebook! Have a concern? Email, call or Yelp us.

If you are an iPhone user you should seriously consider our iPhone app which will be updated on every new print run of the physical deck, so you always have the latest “Drink Deck friendly spots” What’s better? It’s $10 less then the physical deck and the updates are free, so you get the new cards at no charge!

Rogue is out of Drink Deck Portland

Hey there fellow and future Drink Deckers! Just a quick note to let you all know that Rogue has decided not to honor their card in the Drink Deck Portland. They just don’t feel they need to honor a discount to get customers into their location in the Pearl District, which we featured as the 3 of Diamonds in the first 1,000 copies of Drink Deck Portland that were produced.

Needless to say we are going to replace Rogue in the next print run of Drink Deck Portland and plan to send a note to all those who order a Drink Deck Portland (moving forward) letting them know that this card is not valid.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Percentage off or just $10 off?

$10 off $30 is a 33% discount. If you are looking to draw in larger groups and drive check average higher than $30 then we’d recommend offering a percentage off. 30% off a $30 spend is only $9, but consumers see a % off discount as an incentive to stay longer and spend more.

In the end it’s up to you based on what makes the most sense for your business. We value you as a small business owner!

Upcoming Events in January & February

Here’s a little update on events we will be attending in Portland and then in Chicago, below Portland:

Portland:

Sunday, January 16th at East Burn

Chicago:

While we craft our offerings in our newest Drink Deck cities our events in Chicago will be a little sparse, but fear not! Look for us at The Great American Cooking Expo on March 11 and 12 and Bacon Fest on April 9th.

The bar enthusiast’s travel guide expands!

I love traveling! Growing up in the Hospitality business and having worked in the industry since 1998 has afforded me some great opportunities to see different parts of the Country and the World! We are the type of people to research our destinations prior; delving into guide books like Lonely Planet and picking up a copy of Zagat . These references are great, but there has always been something missing! That something is the value component. You can buy these guides and use them a million times, but do they ever really pay you back for the purchase? Enter Drink Deck’s expansion!

We have established relationships across two more of the best drinking destinations in the US and are working hard to bring our fans travel guides devoted to YOU, the bar enthusiast . Look for Drink Deck to roll out across the following cities in the coming months:

How have other venues handled the transaction process?

Keep it simple and inform your staff. There are three options from old school corner tearing to manager validation to point of sale tracking. It’s up to you. We do provide a training piece for your team, please share it!

Comments Off

How does the minimum purchase requirement work?

Drink Deck cards can be used as long as your total bill on food and/or drink is $30/£20 before tax and tip. Drink Deck cards are valid for the discount listed in the upper right hand corner of each card. No Expiration!

Comments Off

Basic option:

Most operations just tear off the corner and return the card to the patron with the check. Owners elect to have their staff keep Drink Deck torn corner clippings in the coin drawer to track when the drawer is cashed out. This also allows for daily, weekly and monthly tracking of Drink Deck use by management.

Comments Off

Manager validation:

Manager is responsible for voiding all discount cards.

Comments Off

How many times can I visit an establishment and get my discount?

Just once. After the bottom left hand corner of a physical card is torn off or a redemption made on your smart phone then it’s time to move on to your next of the 52 venues in each Drink Deck destination guide.

Use the percentage off cards with a group of friends under one tab. The more you spend, the more you save! Use the $ / £ off cards to organize a food, drink and entertainment crawl in a specific neighborhood. Hit the minimum spend, tab out, get your discount and move to the next spot on the crawl!

Comments Off

Point of Sales System:

Create a Drink Deck card discount button on your POS system for a 10 dollar discount, tear the corner with the bar name to void and the manager verifies the discount with the bartender or waitress through the POS system.

Comments Off

How do we cancel our partnership?

Although no one has done so to date, you can notify Drink Deck of your desire to discontinue the promotion after the sale of the 2,000 decks produced with your establishment included. We will notify our mutual customers via email, on the web site and through twitter and facebook.

Comments Off

Venue Partner Benefits:

1) Drink Deck is great exposure for our venue partners! We represent you at events, festivals and fairs throughout the year giving great visual marketing to your operation by playing card games to engage our visitors. We also promote your calls to action from facebook, twitter, foursquare; not to mention exposure in local retail operations and at venue partner locations where Drink Decks are sold.

2) Featuring you as one of the 52 best food and drink scenes in town sets you apart. It’s in the cards! Great marketing of your spot through the Drink Deck playing cards and our smart phone apps which provide a photo of your venue’s signage, location, web address and phone number, etc.

3) Another discount vehicle to help drive new customers to your location; including visitors to your destination, new comers and locals.

5) A great way to bring old customers back with their friends, time and again. This is especially true for locations that sell Drink Decks at their venue. Please contact us at thedrinkdeck@gmail.com to discuss this further.

6) We are Hospitality Industry Vets and an extension of your team! Training your staff is key to ensure any discount process goes smoothly. Let’s us know how we can help with this or any further in house promotion!

Go West My Bar Enthusiast, Go West

I love Portland! Although it does rain every now and again. Nevertheless, from a food and drink perspective Portland has really stepped up its game. Food trucks, classic cocktail resurgence, farm to table bistros, donuts, micro brews, tiki cocktails, asian pubs….I could go on. Mad love for Portland has led  to the creation of Drink Deck PDX, the bar enthusiast’s travel & discount guide to the best bar scenes in Portland!

Don’t you hate traveling to a new city to explore and having to rely on a guide book, the hotel concierge, or some free daily print newspaper that claims “Best of the XYZ City”, “Best Dentist”, “Best Dive Bar”, “Best New Restaurant”…..are you pickin up what we are laying down here?  Those sources are not discerning and lack focus on the true best of the best! Now when you visit Chicago, or when you visit Portland, you have a guide – Drink Deck! This is of course assuming you plan to hit at least a few bar scenes during your stay, which I must say; is almost impossible to avoid. SO, you might as well hit up the best spots!

Leave that to Drink Deck! We take the lame coupon book your grandma kept in the glove box, combine it with the name brand guide book you carried on your last trip and fold them together into a snazzy deck of poker sized playing cards. Each card features:

  • The bar name and genre (think sports bar, specialty cocktails, dive, hip hangout).
  • The address with cross streets, so you can impress the cabbie with your map skills.
  • The bar’s phone number, so you can phone in for daily specials or just to make sure they are open before heading out.
  • The bar web site. Do your homework before heading out..make sure you find the right spot!
  • A $10 gift card! Whereby you spend $30 and get $10 off at each location featured in the Drink Deck.  That’s 52 – $10 gift cards, with no expiration!  The patent-pending bottom left hand corner of each Drink Deck card is torn off to void the discount, allowing Drink Deckers to keep their card for memories or to continue playing cards! We wouldn’t want anyone to say, “She’s not operating with a full deck.”.

Here is an image of the card face of Drink Deck card for reference….for those visual folks:

So, without further delay we present you with the first edition of Drink Deck Portland! Pre order sales are open at www.thedrinkdeck.com/store.

Autumn Inspirations from Portland’s Best Cocktail Bars

What’s shakin this Fall? With Portland’s burgeoning craft cocktail scene we went in search of what’s on the menu for Autumn.

This year skip the pumpkin pie or sweet potato casserole that you usually bring to the family for your Thanksgiving feast. Instead mix it up a little by trying your hand at a fall themed cocktail! Or, here’s an idea! By pass the hard part, actually making the cocktail yourself, and instead take your crew out for a night on the town over the Holiday weekend to experience some fall concoctions brought to you by 5 of our favorite cocktail bars in town.

Fall is a great time of year, especially if you’re a fan of the brown liquid loveliness like bourbons, dark rums and even sweet vermouths that come into play as the autumnal equinox gets into full swing. Below you’ll find a review of 5 great spots to visit this fall and what’s shakin behind the bar from some of Portland’s top mixologists. If your internal mixologist is up to it, give these lovely recipes at try at your own cocktail lab this Thanksgiving.

The Venue: Teardrop Lounge

Best Cocktails in Portland

The Skinny: It’s like stepping inside a stadium where the main attraction is the cocktail! Get up close and intimate with your drink and how it’s made at Teardrop. Award winning mixologist and properetor Daniel Shoemaker heads up the team of talent here at this swank downtown location.

The Cocktail: Twenty-Three Skidoo

Portland's Best Bars

The Recipe:
Build in a chilled bucket (aka mixer)
1 tsp. rich demerera (2 parts demerera sugar to 1 part boiling water, stir well until dissolved)
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 dash Regan’s orange bitters
Stir to incorporate, add one large cube,
add 2 oz. High West double rye whiskey
1/4 oz. cherry digestif (homemade)
Stir for 20 seconds. Garnish with an orange peel.

The Venue: Circa 33

Bar Fly

The Skinny: Just off SE 33rd Avenue, the name’s a little play on their cross street and the year 1933, when prohibition was repealed. Taking the year theme even further, the cocktail menu features drinks labeled by Century, from the 18th through 21st Centuries.

The Cocktail: The Ontario

Circa33 Portland

The Recipe:
1.5 oz Jim Beam Rye
.5 oz Calisaya
.5 oz simple syrup
2 dashes Peychauds bitters
Served on the rocks with an orange twist

The Venue: Sapphire Hotel

PDX Best Bars

The Skinny: When a bar’s owned by two women you know it’s going to be sultry and sexy, and thus Sapphire Hotel fits the bill. Coming to know that your dad isn’t really your dad is a subject that requires a stiff drink and a smoke! And forget the lemon peel, garnish! This matter requires a few puffs to help ease the pain.

The Cocktail: “You’re Not My Real Dad?”

PDX Top 5 Cocktail Bars

The Recipe:
2oz whiskey
1/2 oz scotch syrup (made in house)
1/2 oz Punt e Mes
1 dash Orange Bitters
2 dashes Cedar Bitters (made in house)
Stir & strain into a scotch spritzed bucket with one large ice cube.
Garnished with a cigarette

The Venue: Beaker and Flask

Fall Cocktails

The Skinny: Hipper than hip. And you get a two for one deal with easy bar hopping; as Rum Club is just around the other side of the building. Although the exterior looks a little like a furniture sale room, you’ll get nothing short of a wow factor out of the interior of this go to venue for craft cocktails in Portland.

The Cocktail: The Jack Horner from barman Douglas Strodtman

Portland's Best Cocktail Bars

The Recipe:
1.5 lairds bonded,
1.5 plum cardamom syrup ( made in house from locally farmed plum)
1/3 lemon,
a dash of old fashioned
and ginger beer

The Venue: East Burn

The Skinny: Not exactly a cocktail bar, but certainly one of Portland’s best spots for a drink; East Burn features a recently redesigned cocktail menu by Jopa Corvus. Here’s a little something you can sip on for fall certousy of Jopa and the crew at East Burn.

The Cocktail: Bourbon Cherry Buck by Jopa Corvus

Portland's Best Bars

The Recipe:
1.5oz bulleit bourbon
.5 Benedictine
.5 lemon juice
.5 black cherry concentrate
Shaken, topped with ginger beer

Autumn Inspirations from New Orleans’ Best Cocktail Bars

What’s shakin this Fall? With the burgeoning craft cocktail scene in New Orleans we went in search of what’s on the menu for Autumn.

This year skip the pumpkin pie or sweet potato casserole that you usually bring to the family Thanksgiving feast. Instead mix it up a little by trying your hand at a fall themed cocktail! Or, here’s a better idea! By pass the hard part, actually making the cocktail yourself, and instead take your crew out for a night on the town over the Holiday weekend to experience some fall concoctions brought to you by our favorite cocktail bars in town.

This is a great time of year, especially if you’re a fan of the brown liquid loveliness like bourbons, dark rums and even sweet vermouths that come into play as the autumnal equinox gets into full swing. Below you’ll find a review of 5 great spots to visit this fall and what’s shakin’ behind the bar from some of New Orleans’ best. If your internal mixologist is up to it, give these lovely recipes a try at your own cocktail lab this Thanksgiving.

The Venue: Bar Tonique

The Skinny: Bar Tonique is a laid back off the beaten track craft cocktail bar on the outskirts of the French Quarter. Exposed brick, chalk board menus and the sweet sound of jazz coupled with ice rattling against cocktail shakers create the setting for both full time and guest bartenders to work their magic.

The Cocktail: Steve Wiltshire’s “A Dire Invitation”, has the perfect name for a drink that you’d shake for a guest you were hoping would join you for a Thanksgiving day meal! It’s a champagne cocktail mixed with sour cherry shrubb, reposado tequila and Cocchi di Torino Vermouth. It’s served in a champagne flute and garnished with an lemon peel.

New Orleans' Best Cocktail Bars

The Recipe:
1 1/2 oz Reposado Tequila
3/4 oz Cocchi di Torino
3/4 oz Sour Cherry Shrubb
Stir and strain into flute
Top with sparkling wine and lemon twist

The Venue: Cure

The Skinny: An award winning concept and one of Travel & Leisure’s Best Bars in America in 2011, Cure is located in a reclaimed fire house in Freret District. Noting the giant wall of liquor behind the bar you get a good feeling that whatever they are shaking is going to be done well!

New Orleans Best Bars

The Cocktail: From bar man Neil Roche comes “Midnight In A Perfect World” and another nod to Cocchi Vermouth di Torino. Concocted with a fortified peach syrup and bourbon this drinks bound to light up a few faces around the dinner table. Seems to us that it would pair well with turkey, oh or peach cobbler!

Thanksgiving Cocktails

The Recipe:
1 oz Nardini Tagliatelle Liqueur
1 oz Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon
1 oz Cocchi Vermouth di Torino
2 dashes Bittermen’s Mole Bitters
1/8 oz of Fortified Peach Syrup*
Stir until chilled and strain into a coupe.
Express the oil of one grapefruit peel above the cocktail and drop in the glass as garnish.

*Fortified Peach Syrup
2 Cups water
2 1/2 Cups Diced and Muddled Peaches (equivalent to 3 ripe peaches)
2 Cups White Sugar

Add all ingredients into a pot.
Bring to Boil. Drop the heat and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Take off the heat and let cool.
Add 4 oz of Wray and Neph Rum
Add 3 Dashes of fee peach bitters
Stir ingredients.
Let mixture sit over night and strain the next day.

The Venue: Bridge Lounge

The Skinny: Don’t let the facade or surrounding area scare you away from a visit here. The space is plush and the stone topped bar sprawls across the room like a never ending all you can eat buffet, providing plenty of space to mingle with friends. With candle lit tables off the bar in the lounge area this is a perfect spot to spend a chill evening.

NOLA's Best Cocktail Bars

The Cocktail: The Hayride by Sean M. Neary. Like a Dark and Stormy with Bourbon instead of rum the Hayride is one of those cocktails that keeps you coming back for more. And what a perfect name to conjure up images of autumn.

Bridge Lounge

The Recipe:
1 1/2 oz. Bourboun
1 oz. Hiver Amer Bitters
1 oz. Lemon juice
1 1/2 oz. Honey
Topped with Ginger Beer

Combine Bourbon, Bitters, Lemon Juice and Honey in a shaker without ice. Shake vigorously to incorporate the honey. Strain over ice. Top with Ginger Beer. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

The Venue: Bombay Club

The Skinny: A refuge from the action just off the Bourbon Street strip is this quaint little hide away where you expect to hear Billy Joel playing Piano Man while men in smoking jackets mingle with dames in cocktail dresses.

New Orleans Best Bars

The Cocktail: The Bombay Club is known for their martinis so it’s no surprise that their fall inspiration, the Cinnamon Spice-tini by Becky Rovelo, comes in a long stemmed glass!

The Recipe:

2 parts Fireball cinnamon whiskey
1/2 part Tuaca
1 part Amaretto
Half N half
Shaken and poured into a cinnamon sugar rimmed martini glass

The Venue: Sylvain

The Skinny: Special things are happening in this French Quarter carriage house dating back to 1796. With a blending of creations old and new food and cocktails are exquisitley combined making Sylvain a go to spot on any visit to the Crescent City.

The Cocktail: Nieux Jersey, cocktail by head bartender Liam Deegan

Best Cocktail Bars in NOLA

The Recipe:
3/4 oz Sazerac Rye
3/4 oz Laird’s Bonded Applejack
1/2 oz Becherovka
1/2 oz Cherry Heering
Stir in mixing glass with ice
Strain
Serve with one large ice cube
Orange Peel Garnish

Intoxica! An Underground Exploration of Polynesian Cuisine & Tiki Cocktails

Underground supper clubs are all the rage, and Clandestino Dining is no exception. Executive Chef & Owner, Efrain Cuevas is the mastermind behind Clandestino. His passion for “Grow it, Cook it, Eat it” transcends from the kitchen to the bar through his creation of market fresh cocktails – “Grow it, Brew it, Shake it, Drink it”! We met during his first underground cocktail event at The Exchange: 1270 N Milwaukee (one of 52 Drink Deck friendly establishments in Chicago) where Efrain prepared a bourbon base elixir with homemade rootbeer and St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram…WOW! We sucked down four of these bourbon based beauties at $8 each and used our Exchange Drink Deck card, taking the bill from $32 to $22 before tip!

On Wednesday, November 17 from 8PM-12AM Efrain will be behind the bar again, this time conquering tiki cocktails at the place that made the Mai Tai famous, Trader Vic’s – another one of 52 Drink Deck friendly establishments in Chicago. Tickets are $30 in advance and available at http://bit.ly/bKAAnN.

Included with admission:

  • A copy of the newest edition of the Chicago Drink Deck featuring 52 – $10 gift cards to Chicago’s best bar scenes – $29.99 online by itself!
  • One drink ticket for beer, wine or a Mai Tai, per purchased ticket
  • Access to an outstanding spread of Polynesian Pupus (aka appetizers) that will be locally sourced and prepared under the supervision of Chef Cuevas.
  • Specially created market fresh tiki libations (which are being kept “underground” until the day of the event) for a special price of $7-$9.

Use your newly procured Drink Deck card that night at the event and get $10 off a $30 bar tab.

“Drink Deckers” that already own a copy of the bar enthusiast’s travel & discount guide to Chicago can show their Drink Deck at the door and get two extra drink tickets per couple.

Half Way To Cino de Mayo Bar Crawl 11/4 7-10PM

On a recent sunny day, while drinking some Victoria beers at the patio of The Boundary, new friends were meeting to discuss a partnership on future events. The team from StateStSports, Drink Deck & The Boundary came up with a pretty neat idea, a bar crawl themed around Cinco de Mayo, but taking place in November instead of May….the 1/2 way point to the celebration of Mexican independence.  We proudly present you with the 1st Annual Division Street Half Way To Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl!

Check out the snazzy posters we came up with for the event. These will be posted in the restrooms at Moonshine, The Boundary and The Fifty/50 – the scene of the crime on 11/4. RSVP on Facebook at Event Name: HALF WAY TO CINCO and follow our tweets at #halfwaytocinco.

Portland, OR

drinkdecklogo

We visited Portland for the first time in January to celebrate a birthday and do some homework…actually just heavy drinking in Portland and the surrounding wine country. Drink Deck is the perfect city for our first expansion efforts:

  • The largest collection of brew pubs per capita in the US
  • A city of defined neighborhoods, perfect for Drink Deck bar crawls
  • A population of 2 million
  • A bar-centric / game playing crowd

Look for more information to come. We are heading out in September armed with a list of contacts to start making Portland’s Drink Deck a reality. Follow our adventures on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/drinkdeckpdx

Reflections from the Urban Hunt

Drink Deck was proud to sponsor and participant in the 2010 Urban Hunt.

Congrats to the teams that placed; this was indeed quite a feat! Ripe weather, sweaty sneakers and the sound of screen tapping fingers as the teams pushed their social networking skills to the brink! Six lucky winners received great gifts including their own copy of the Chicago Drink Deck: the bar enthusiast’s travel & discount guide to the best bars in the Windy City featuring 52 – $10 gift certificates (with no expiration) presented as a deck of playing cards/travel guide.

Team Drink Deck featured Damian Mays and Victoria Gray sporting t-shirts from the T-Shirt Deli (hold the pickles please).

Photos of the Card Players during a pre Hunt strategy session:

Despite the wardrobe malfunction of a deep cut V Neck T, Damian and Victoria represented Drink Deck famously by completing 12 of the 22 tasks! Below are some highlights of our favorite moments from Team Drink Deck’s Urban Hunt Experience.

Task 5: Rockin out at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago

Task 7: Stay hydrated with Fiji Water!

Task 8: Drink Up…Way High Up!

Task 12: At the W Lakeshore where Damian and Victoria won a prize for best dance moves! Shaken, not stirred is Team Drink Deck’s motto! Shake it!

Task 20: Victoria posing with excellent form at Lululemon. Given her profession as a personal trainer and expert at kettlebells we knew this shot would come out flawless! Learn more about Victoria and her services at http://vgrayfitness.com/.

About Drink Deck: our mission is to provide bar crawls and $10 gift cards with no expiration to the best bar scenes in Chicago and beyond through a clever design combining a discount book, travel guide and deck of playing cards. Learn more at www.thedrinkdeck.com

A Comparison of Rio and Chicago

After living in Chicago for three years and having recently visited Rio (known as the “Magnificent City”) I noticed many similiarities between the two cities. It is ironic that Chicago and Rio were both finalists for the 2015 Olympics, and that lead me to realize perhaps the Olympic Committee’s qualifying city check list took some of these points into consideration:

1) A City of Neighborhoods:
Like Chicago, Rio is made up of numerous “barrios”. These neighborhoods are linked by the Bonde (pronounced Bon Gee) and the Metro. With the low cost of cabs and the abundance of bus and train you will have no problem getting around. Now, while the cabs in Chicago are nowhere near as affordable, the public transportation system is very good in the Windy City.

Traveling through the neighborhood of Santa Teresa located above Centro (downtown)

2) Hot Dogs:
Look at the number of condiments you can get in Rio! Put the Chicago dog to shame!

3) Popcorn

Garrett's Popcorn look out

4) Blue Bag Program
Chicago much debated Blue Bag Recycling Program apparently isn’t that original. We discovered Rio’s Blue Bag Program after stopping in at a local restaurant for a snack and an afternoon beer.

5) Sports Fanatics
Brazilians are proud of their futbol team just like Chicagoans are proud of the Bears or the Cubs….no matter how bad they do. We had a chance to attend the Fifa Fan Fest on the beach in Copacabana. An estimated 30,000 futbol fans showed up.

6) Cocktails!
How could we forget the cocktails! Both Chicago and Rio are cocktail cultures. While the classic cocktail joints in Chicago are the way to go when out for a night on the town in the Windy City, the Cariocas prefer their Caipirinhas; a drink made with Cachaca (a sugar cane liquor). We were amazed how many different types are available and the wide range in price. It’s like Tequila or Rum to the typical Chicagoian. Someone should open a Cachaca bar here in Chicago and offer tasting flights! Hmmm….good idea!

Revoltion Brewing, a new Drink Deck hot spot!

The only way to get a discount at Revolution Brewing!

We recently visited Josh Deth’s new bad ass brew pub in Logan Square. After attempting a Saturday evening visit during opening week and deciding against a 2 and half hour wait, we returned on a Tuesday evening at 5:30PM to find limited seating! Way to go Rev Brew! Our first visit won’t be the last, outstanding beers, great food, excellent service! I had to ask if they had any drink specials, knowing the answer would be no! The good thing is that when you have a Drink Deck you don’t need a discount! $10 off a $30 purchase is good enough for me, espcially when Drink Deck is the only way to get a discount at Revolution Brewing!

At $30 for a deck, with no expiration, all you have to do is hit 3 spots and you will pay yourself back for the purchase! Check out www.thedrinkdeck.com to buy one today! Our next post will feature some of our retailers around Chicago where you can purchase the Drink Deck if you don’t want to buy on line! More to come.

Some things change and some stay the same

We did our best at Drink Deck to present 52 tried and true bar scenes in Chicago and vowed to work with owner/operators that are at the top of their game!

That said we took some risk working with owner/operators that planned to expand their offerings in 2010. Case in point, we recently learned from Dine and Drink, Inc that operations at the fifth, a cocktail and wine bar in the 600 W Chicago Building, would be discontinuing operation in February, 2010. Dine and Drink consisted of three cards in the 2010 Chicago Drink Deck: the fifth, Paramount Room and Volo Wine Bar. As a result of the closing of the fifth, Dine and Drink, Inc has agreed to honor the fifth Drink Deck card at Paramount Room and Volo Wine Bar. Learn more about their great establishments at http://dineanddrinkinc.com/.

Additionally, the Chase Lounge conversion to the Southern meant some changes not only to the look and feel of their space on North Milwaukee, but also to the menu offerings. A sleek Miami-esk vibe has turned to a Nawlins themed dining spot with a “kick ass” bar. You can learn more at http://www.thesouthernchicago.com/. Despite the changes the Lasky Group, who also owns the Hunt Club, will honor the Chase Lounge card at their recreated spot.
